In Response To Allegations Of A Shooting, Corewell Health Beaumont Troy In Michigan Has Implemented A Lockdown

An active shooter opened fire at a hospital in Michigan, resulting in the injury of a patient in the emergency room.

The unnamed patient was wounded at Corewell Health Beaumont Troy, located 24 miles north of Detroit, at around 7 a.m. ET on Thursday. It remains unclear whether the patient was specifically targeted or caught in a random attack, and no further details about their condition have been made public.

The shooter is still at large, and a heavy police presence is at the hospital as law enforcement works to locate the suspect.

Barbara, a nurse at the hospital, informed WXYZ that the gunfire reportedly started in the radiology department. A shelter-in-place order has been issued for the hospital, and medical staff are reportedly taking refuge in the supply room, according to 7News Detroit.

A warning sent to hospital staff read, “THIS IS AN EMERGENCY — There is an ACTIVE SHOOTER at Troy Hospital in the Parking Structure building,” as reported by Click on Detroit. “Police are enroute. Please take immediate personal safety measures and follow the run, hide, fight guidelines.”

The alert continued, advising those not at the facility to stay away and not return until the all-clear signal was given.

A dramatic video shared on social media showed hospital staff inside a room, with a police officer in tactical gear urging a medic to stay inside while securing the hallways.

At 8:07 a.m., the Troy Police Department confirmed the shooting incident. “We can confirm there has been a shooting at Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital,” the department wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “This appears to be an isolated incident, but the suspect is not in custody. Please avoid the area.”

Law enforcement vehicles were seen racing to the hospital, and Brittany Tools, a reporter for WXYZ, noted that officers in tactical gear carrying long guns left the local police station and sped off toward the scene.

As of 8:50 a.m. ET, the suspect remains at large. The area surrounding Corewell Health includes a large wooded area and a golf course, providing potential hiding spots for the shooter if they managed to escape the hospital.

No further details about the origin of the incident or any additional injuries or fatalities have been confirmed at this time.

Nearby schools have been placed on a “soft lockdown,” meaning classes will continue but students are confined to their classrooms. All patient appointments at the hospital have been canceled, and law enforcement has advised the public to avoid visiting the facility.

Corewell Health’s campus is large, with multiple buildings, including a pediatrics unit.

This is a developing story; more updates will follow.
